Description
Death on the road is a remake of Oriol's very first title, Roadsplat and is something of a homage to the classic audio The curb game. Where in the Curb game you play a disgruntled hedgehog, in Death on the road you take on the role of a young blind person with the world's worst mobility instructor. Listen out for the most insane of drivers coming from left to right (really these guys make New York taxi cabs look like considerate road users), and peg it across when you believe your not in danger of getting squished by hitting the up arrow. Of course, as is unfortunately often true with mobility lessons, this is a dull and repetitive experience, so once to one side of the road, you'll immediately have to hit down arrow to go back across, ---- dodging the psycho drivers of course.
Of course, there is more to the game than that. Occasionally bonus items will appear, tempting you to dash out and grab them. Bonuses include road coins, extra health or a temporary shield or speed increase, however you might also find yourself having some of your coins robbed by a thief, or finding yourself drunk and subsequently slowed down to a crawl, making you easy road kill.
In addition you might also run across amo for your gun, which lets you exact some carnage on the worlds' most inconsiderate drivers (wracking up high scores in the process), or find you need to quickly defuse a bomb by going through numbers with the left and right arrow keys having to swap them with control to put them in the correct order. Successful defusing will give you healthy coin and point bonuses, however if the bomb explodes it's going to hurt.
When your health hits zero the game is over, however you might have earned something to help for next time, since those road coins you've hopefully been collecting can be used in the shop found in the main menu to speed up your walking speed, give you extra health, increase your chance of lucky crossing bonuses or your bomb defusing time. Since these values persist across games, Death on the road is one arcade game where your performance will improve as you play.
As usual with Oriol's games, Death on the road is entirely self voicing, so no screen reader is necessary to play, and will run on any version of Windows later than Windows 7 though not on Windows Xp. Additionally, it's %100, absolutely free.
Created with The blastbay game toolkit The game now is abandonware. Furthermore, since antivirus programs read anything made with Bgt as a virus, you'll need to add an exception to windows defender in order to play the game. Though Oriol only now provides source code versions of his BGt projects on the above page, the audiogames archive do have a fully compiled version of the game, which can be downloaded at the above link.

Happy gaming.
