Description

BG Brainiac is a new and interesting take by Spoonbill on the popular game of Concentration. A number of tiles are set out in a grid pattern face down. Each turn, the player gets to turn over two tiles of his/her choice, if the objects are different the tiles are turned face down once again, however if they match, the tiles are removed from the board, thus the game continues until all pairs are found and the board is empty.

The challenge then, is to memorize the position of the various objects, and be able to clear the board efficiently.

Bg brainiac offers both a single player, and more traditional two player variant of the game. In the two player game, the object is to score the most matches. If a player reveals a pair, they get another turn, and can thus run up a streak and rake in the points.

In the single player version of the game, the object is to achieve as high a score as possible. The player scores one point for each pair revealed, however for every pair revealed in a row, the score doubles to 2, then 4, then 8 points etc, ---- though if the player reveals a miss match, the score multiplier will go down by a half. This makes the game have a strategic element to go along with the spacial memory, , since obviously it is better to try and reveal the position of most objects on the board, then go for a successive run of pairs to achieve as high a score as possible.

BG brainiac is also highly customizable. Difficulty may be set to easy or hard, ---- the principle difference being that in easy mode, there are two copies of each object under the tiles, making choosing a pair more likely. Also, altering the format of the board will determine how many tiles, , ---- and thus how much memory, is involved, going from the default 4 x 6, 24 tile set, down to a tiny 4 x 3 12 tiles, and up to a massive 8 x 6 48 tiles.

Access wise, things work with the usual smoothness you'd expect in a spoonbill game. Everything is self voicing via Microsoft sapi, ----- though a screen reader is needed to read the html help file. The game also has various helpful sound effects and can play midi music, and can change between verbose and brief modes of speech.

There are also a range of options for players with different levels of site. The colour scheme can be made white on black (handy for visually impaired players), the window can be maximized, and control for either player can be via the keyboard, ---- using arrow keys and enter, or the mouse, making it perfect to play against opponents with any degree of site.

Also, ---- like all the other spoonbill titles, it's absolutely free.

Happy memorising, and remember to bring your brain!
